CHRISTIAN CHILDREN’S HOME OF OHIO

Christian Children’s Home of Ohio provides a safe structured environment to meet the physical, emotional, mental and spiritual needs of children from all across Ohio who have been abused, neglected and traumatized by the people they should be able to trust most. Children ages 6-18 live in spacious cottages and are provided with therapeutic, social, spiritual and educational opportunities designed to aid the child with the healing process, model for them how a healthy family functions, develop coping and life skills, and introduce them to Jesus Christ.

CCHO is accredited by the Council on Accreditation for Children and Families, licensed by Ohio Dept. of Job and Family Services, certified by Ohio Dept. of Mental Health, and a member of the Ohio Association of Child Caring Agencies. Broadway UMC supports the Christian Children’s Home of Ohio with our 2021 Mission Offerings. You can find out more at https://www.ccho.org/.

GREATER DOVER NEW PHILADELPHIA FOOD PANTRY

The mission of the Greater Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry is to end hunger in the area by serving and providing food assistance to any person in need. Through their efforts, it is possible to provide food assistance to any household in our area that is food-insecure.

Food insecurity means not knowing where the next meal is coming from, or having to choose between buying food or paying for rent, utilities or medical care. This is a very real problem for many of our neighbors. The Greater Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry serves 700 households per week.

You can help by volunteering at the food distributions, many from our congregation are regular parts of the all-volunteer staff at the Greater Dover-New Philadelphia Food Pantry.

You should also refer anyone who needs food assistance to the Food Pantry:

  • Thursdays from 5:00pm to 6:00pm for handicapped individuals, and 6:00pm to 8:00pm welcome to all
  • Fridays from 9:00am to 10:00am for handicapped individuals, and 10:00am to 12:00pm welcome to all

VOICE OF THE MARTYRS

Christians are still persecuted around the world. More Christians were martyred for their faith in the 20th century than in any other time. In many countries, conversion is outlawed, and children may not be taught the faith. A Christian in these areas faces loss of job, loss of property, imprisonment or death for having faith in Christ. Voice of the Martyrs provides support for pastors and underground churches They aid the families of those who are imprisoned or killed for their faith. and raise awareness of religious persecution when it happens.

Please pray for Zhang Wen Shi, also known by his Korean name and title as Deacon Jang, who is an ethnically Korean Chinese citizen who lived in Changbai, China, a town on the border between China and North Korea. He worked alongside Korean-Chinese pastor Pastor Han Chung-Ryeol, ministering to the North Koreans who crossed the border into Changbai.

In November 2014, Deacon Jang was kidnapped from China and put in a North Korean prison. Fifteen months later, Pastor Han was lured from his home and brutally stabbed to death in Changbai.

Deacon Jang was sentenced to 15 years in prison for his ministry to the North Korean people.

Voice of the Martyrs is supported by our 2021 mission offerings. You can find out more at about Deacon Jang and the continuing persecution of Christians around the world at https://www.persecution.com.

OUTREACH TO ELDERLY OR SHUT-INS

Living in a care center is something that all of us may experience, and for others who are yet at home, there comes a time when getting out to church, or anywhere is very hard. We believe that the church should be present with our Indoor Friends. This ministry is ongoing throughout the year through visits, cards, gifts and other expressions of love and help. We encourage you to connect with the church office about being part of the work to encourage those who through age or disability, now have less opportunity to see friends and family. We also want to hear about any friends and neighbors that would be glad to have cards or visits.

ANN SPENCER THANKSGIVING FOOD BASKETS

OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD

Each year Broadway UMC collects supplies and fills 800-1000 shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child. You can help by donating items, (see our bulletin for suggested monthly donations) and joining in with pre-packaging sessions throughout the year. In November, we gather to pack for shipping our shoeboxes. Many of us have gone on to the regional distribution centers to assist with preparing the shoeboxes for overseas shipping.

The mission of Operation Christmas Child is to provide God’s love in a tangible way to children in need around the world, and together with the local church worldwide, to share the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Every year, Samaritan’s Purse has collected shoebox gifts filled with toys, school supplies, and hygiene items for children around the world. Since 1993, more than 186 million children in more than 160 countries and territories have received an Operation Christmas Child shoebox. The project delivers not only the joy of what, for many kids, is their first gift ever, but also gives them a tangible expression of God’s love. Tens of thousands of volunteers from local churches around the world partner with us to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ at festive outreach events where children are surprised with these shoebox gifts.
